Outreach

Welcome

The South Downs Community Special School Outreach Service offers support to mainstream primary schools in the Eastbourne and Hailsham areas of East Sussex.

The Service is managed by and located within The South Downs Community Special School (East Site).

The Outreach Service aims to offer specialist support to mainstream schools to address the needs of its pupils who have language and communication needs, including autism.

Our vision is to work in partnership with mainstream schools to develop the expertise of staff so that pupils in mainstream schools with language and communication needs, including autism, have access to the support that they needs throughout their school day, to reach their academic and social potential.

Specialist support, further described in our Handbook (see below), is delivered by the Outreach Service in a variety of ways designed to respond to the needs identified within each individual mainstream school, including:

  • Whole school support
  • School staff CPD
  • Parent/Carer support
  • Pupil support
  • Multi-agency working
