Transitions to Hazel Court Secondary School 

At Hazel Court School, we understand that moving to a new school is a significant milestone for both pupils and their families. Our transition programme is designed to ensure that every child feels safe, supported and confident as they begin their journey with us.

We work closely with pupils, families and their current schools to develop a detailed understanding of each child’s strengths, interests, communication needs and support requirements. This helps us create a positive and personalised transition experience from the very beginning.

Throughout the transition process, pupils have opportunities to become familiar with their new school environment, meet staff and classmates, and take part in activities within their new class. Families are invited to meet members of the Hazel Court team and learn more about the support, curriculum and opportunities available to their child.

Our staff visit pupils in their current educational setting to observe them in familiar environments and gather important information that will support a successful move to Hazel Court. We also hold detailed handover meetings with previous schools to ensure that key information is shared and that appropriate support is in place from day one.

To help pupils prepare for their new school, we provide transition resources, including personalised transition booklets containing photographs and information about key areas of the school, staff members and daily routines. These resources can be used at home and school to support familiarity and reduce anxiety surrounding change.

We recognise that every child is unique, and transition arrangements can be adapted to meet individual needs. Our aim is to ensure that all pupils feel welcomed, valued and ready to succeed as members of the Hazel Court community.
