Welcome to the Southfield Centre

The Southfield Centre is incorporated into Summerdown School, providing bespoke facilities for pupils age 3 - 16 with complex medical and nursing needs. All of the Centre’s rooms are located within the main school building, ensuring pupils are very much part of the Summerdown community. 

All pupils at the Southfield Centre have a high level of complex medical and physical needs, including nursing requirements. Wherever possible, pupils are integrated into wider school life, participating fully in the Summerdown School community.

Our Centre benefits from excellent specialist facilities, including:

• On-site nursing and therapy teams

• Ceiling-tracked hoists in every classroom and hygiene suite

• Powered mobility equipment

• A hydrotherapy pool

• An accessible playground

Placements at the Southfield Centre are made by East Sussex Local Authority through the EHCP process. The Local Authority also commissions and manages the on-site nursing and therapy provision. Nursing and therapy staff work exclusively with Southfield Centre pupils and in close collaboration with our teaching team to meet every child’s educational and health needs.
